Socrait Earns iKeepSafe FERPA Certification

Sandy, Utah

Socrait, the voice-enabled AI classroom companion built by teachers, has earned iKeepSafe’s FERPA Certification, an independent third-party privacy assessment designed to help schools evaluate education technology against FERPA-aligned requirements.

For principals and administrators navigating fast-moving AI adoption, the iKeepSafe FERPA Certification provides additional assurance that Socrait’s privacy practices have been reviewed through a recognized framework intended for educational environments.

“Privacy is not a feature for us — it’s foundational. As a classroom teacher and founder of Socrait, I knew that bringing voice and AI into schools had to be done responsibly. Socrait does not record classroom audio, does not sell data, and gives teachers full ownership of their information. The iKeepSafe FERPA Certification validates the standards we built in from the start,” Maria Andersen, CEO of Socrait and current middle school teacher stated.

What this means for school and district leaders

School and district leaders are moving quickly to evaluate AI tools, while still meeting procurement, privacy, and community trust requirements. Socrait pursued iKeepSafe’s FERPA Certification to simplify vendor review and reinforce its privacy-first design for classroom use.

Socrait’s privacy-first approach to voice and AI in the classroom

Socrait is built to support teachers without turning classrooms into surveillance environments. Its security and privacy approach emphasizes teacher control, data transparency, and responsible AI use.

Highlights include:

No classroom audio recordings

Audio is processed in real time to generate text and classroom events, but no audio files are stored.

Teacher-controlled activation

Socrait only listens when a teacher taps “Start,” and can be stopped at any time.

Teacher-controlled deletion

Teachers can delete class data from the dashboard.

No data selling

Socrait does not sell teacher or student data.

De-identification before AI processing

Student names are replaced with placeholders (e.g., person_1) before any text is sent to an AI/LLM, then re-mapped on return so teachers see the correct names.

Encrypted storage and transmission

Data is encrypted in transit (SSL/TLS) and at rest (AES-256), stored in U.S.-based Google Cloud data centers.

School-friendly governance

Socrait signs DPAs and applicable state privacy addenda and operates as a “school official” under FERPA.

Ethical AI: transparency, human control, and teacher agency

Socrait’s approach to human-centered AI is grounded in transparency and teacher control. The system generates class summaries and draft communications, but teachers decide what to edit, use, or share.

Socrait’s mission is to reduce the time teachers spend on after-school documentation by organizing everyday classroom moments into usable notes and summaries, so they can focus more on students and instruction.

About Socrait

Socrait is a voice-enabled AI class companion designed by teachers for teachers. During class (without recording audio), Socrait helps convert teacher speech into actionable classroom information—supporting summaries, behavior documentation, draft parent communications, and reminders that reduce end-of-day admin burden.
