Socrait was invented by teachers... for teachers
- Subject: New students starting today
This was the subject line of the email that almost made me leave teaching.
I’d been sick for a month, 4th period was my biggest class, and then students were added to my class two months into the school year. This middle school class had finally started to function, quiet down quickly, and have fun together. And then we got two new students. And one of them was a huge class disruptor.
The next few weeks my chaotic 4th period class had me questioning my life choices. I started to feel serious burnout. I realized I might not make it long-term as a middle / high school teacher.
This job is hard. On my best day, I can only do 50% of what I wish I had the energy and time to do.
The exhaustion was real, and I couldn’t shake it off. I’d been teaching on and off for 30 years, and it was incredibly hard to think I might fail now.
And then I had an idea. A really really good idea. And we began to build Socrait.
I’m hoping that what we’re building will actually lower teacher stress levels all day long and help us feel like we’ve accomplished our teaching goals every day.
You just teach the way you normally teach and Socrait will do the rest.
